All Grasswood Bamboo Flooring products are in the process of the being tested by the CSIRO Australia in accordance with Australian standards, the technical specifications currently detailed on this page are from independent testing carried out by the manufactures and apply to our indoor ranges only. CSIRO test results will be posted on this page once testing is complete.

Glues

Grasswood Bamboo Flooring Indoor lines are glued using Dynea Poly Vinyl Acetate adhesive for its exceptional performance in various environmentally conditions, durability and environmentally sound production methods. Dynea PVAs comply with or exceed the environmental and performance standards as set by Amercian Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), European Standards (EN) and the Japanese Agricultural Standards (JAS).

Lacquers and Finishes

Grasswood Bamboo Flooring Indoor lines are finished with factory applied Treffert finishes that enhance the natural beauty of the bamboo whilst enhancing protection against wear and tear. All lines are finished with six layers of acrylated UV coatings and two layers of anti-abrsasion lacquer. Both finishes and stains used throughout the production are water based and solvent free. Testing results against European (EN) and American (ATSM) Standards below.

State Forestry Administration of China Test Results:

Hardness (Janka Ball Test):
When tested according to the standards of the National Wood Flooring Association Test (Janka Ball Hardness Test), it shows an average hardness of 1320 PSI, which is comparable with Northern Red Oak. The carbonisation process reduces the result to 1010 PSI, or approximately the strength of walnut.

Basic Density: 0.766g/cm3
Air-dry Density: 0.819g/cm3

Moisture content:
6 to 9%

Dimensional Stability:
Bamboo flooring produced a dimensional change coefficient of .00144 making it more than 2.5 times more stable than commonly used wood flooring.

Compressive Strength:
Testing to ASTM 3501-86 A produced:
Compression parallel to grain: 7600 PSI
Compression perpendicular to grain: 2624 PSI

Modulus of Elasticity (MOE, Stiffness): 8.4GPa

Modulus of Rupture (MOR, Bending strength): 170.6MPa

Shearing Strength of Gluing Line: 155.8kgf/cm2

Holding of Screw, Longitudinal Section: 149.60kgf

Holding of Screw, Cross Section: 136.80kgf

Water Absorption, pert. (26C, 24 Hr.): 11.80%

Water Absorption, Swelling (26C, 24 Hr.): 0.23%

Shrinkage after drying, parallel to fibre (Radial): 0.028%

Shrinkage after drying, perpendicular to fibre (Chord):

Shrinkage after drying, thickness: 0.308%

Impact Strength: 1.16kgf.m/cm2

Flammability:
When tested according to ASTM E648 Critical Radiant Panel Test, Bamboo passed with a Class 1 rating per NFPA "Life Safety Code". This means that Bamboo flooring can be used in all classes of buildings.

Smoke Density:
When tested according to ASTM E622, Bamboo passed with a 269 flaming mode and a 329 non-flaming mode. A passing score was 450 or less.

Tensile Strength:
Testing to ASTM 3500-90 A yielded results of 15,300 PSI parallel to grain.

Abrasion Resistance:
When tested according to ASTM C501, the weight loss was only .012 ounces (.349 grams). The test utilised H-22 calibrate wheels loaded with 1000-gram weights at 70 RPM for 1000 cycles.

Chemical and Stain Resistance:
When tested with the following chemical reagents finish, Bamboo was unaffected:
Acetic Acid (5%) Ethyl Alcohol (50%)
Ammonium Hydroxide (10%) Hydrogen Peroxide (3%)
Acetone Soap Solution (1%)
Detergent Solution Turpentine
Heavy Duty (.025%) Toluene
Sodium Hydroxide (1%) Hydrochloric Acid (10%)


Slip Resistance:
When tested according to ASTM D2047, Bamboo was rated as slip resistant per the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Formaldehyde:
0.0127ppm (European standards for formaldehyde = 0.124 mg/m3 (About .13 ppm)
